Debbie Harry & others share David Bowie anecdotes in backstage documentary

July 9th, 2016 | by Nick

In April, some of music’s biggest and best got together to throw a pair of epic tribute concerts for the late David Bowie. The sold-out shows, held at New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall, boasted lineups of high-profile artists including Cat Power, The Flaming Lips, Michael Stipe, Esperanza Spalding, Debbie Harry and Cyndi Lauper. Although they made their Bowie fanaticism pretty apparent through momentous live performances, they also verbalized their reverence for Ziggy Stardust in a short film shot backstage.

The Okayplayer documentary, entitled “Reflections on David Bowie,” shows participating artists recounting their favorite Bowie moments and memories. The stories are both moving and amusing; Cat Power’s Chan Marshall likens Bowie to her mother, Wayne Coyne compares him to a “mythological entity like Santa Clause, or Jesus Christ, or Evel Knievel,” and Laurie Anderson puts it simply: “David was from somewhere else.”

Check out the video above to hear how the icon inspired some of today’s most influential musicians.
