This is a completely new edit of ‘Time’, a performance which was filmed in 1973 for the TV special ‘The 1980 Floor Show’.
This version uses many alternate takes and camera angles not seen in the original broadcast version.

As with the other songs he filmed for the show, Bowie and his band would perform several run throughs of ‘Time’. An early take was abandoned when Bowie had what would today be referred to as a ‘wardrobe malfunction’. In other words his zip broke and his off-the-shoulder costume became an off-the-nipple-number.

Once Bowie was happy with a particular take, the cameras were repositioned in the tiny Marquee Club, and the song was performed again to a playback allowing for a few extra angles to help with the editing.

For this version, I went back to the source footage and edited it from scratch, selecting my own favourite shots and angles and adding a few subtle fast/slow motion effects. The footage was then colour corrected and the audio improved with an EQ filter.

Bowie at this time was considering a ‘Ziggy Stardust’ stage musical and I think this performance in particular gives us a hint of what it might have looked like.

Play it loud and enjoy!
