TUE MAY 17, 2016 @ THE ACE HOTEL, LONDON.

Making his first UK appearance in 15 years, Ace Hotel London Artist in Residence Lindsay Kemp will be in conversation with acclaimed singer-songwriter Marc Almond on life and work with David Bowie. Hosted by Nicholas Pegg, author of ‘The Complete David Bowie’, the evening will also include a screening of ‘The Looking Glass Murders’ (1970) and an exclusive trailer for upcoming feature documentary ‘Lindsay Kemp’s Last Dance’ (2016).

In 1967, David Bowie’s life changed when he met Lindsay Kemp. Bowie later described the experience:
“Lindsay lived on his emotions, he was a wonderful influence. His day-to-day life was the most theatrical thing I had ever seen… It was everything I thought Bohemia probably was. I joined the circus.”
Bowie toured with Kemp in Pierrot in Turquoise, playing the ‘protean role’ of ‘Cloud’ to Kemp’s Pierrot. Adapted for the screen in 1970, the production was renamed ‘The Looking Glass Murders’. The story depicted the dreamlike backstage dramas of a group of travelling players, and Bowie wrote several new songs for the film including ‘Threepenny Pierrot’.

In 1972, Bowie called on Kemp to collaborate on the preparation of his new Ziggy Stardust show, directing the staging and appearing as a ‘special guest’ in the legendary Ziggy concerts at The Rainbow Theatre where David Bowie and Lindsay Kemp changed rock performance forever.
